Ingredients

  • 6 ounces firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 green onion
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon hot pepper flakes

Preparation

  1. Slice the tofu into 4 rectangle slices. Pat each piece dry with a paper towel.
  2. Heat a frying pan with 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil on high heat.
  3. Add the tofu and reduce to low-medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. Once the bottom of each piece is golden brown, turn it over and cook for another 5 to 7 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. To make the dipping sauce mince the garlic and chop the green onion. Combine minced garlic, chopped green onion, sugar or honey, reduced-sodium soy sauce, sesame oil and hot pepper flakes (optional) in a small mixing bowl.

Helpful hints

  • Be cautious with reduced-sodium soy sauce, it does still contain high amounts of sodium.
  • You may substitute sugar for the honey.
  • If you prefer, leave out the hot pepper flakes.
