Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose white flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups cold water

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix the first 5 ingredients in an ungreased 9” x 13” baking pan.
  3. Make 3 holes in the dry ingredients.
  4. Pour 2 tablespoons vinegar in one hole.
  5. Pour 3/4 cup oil in second hole.
  6. Pour 2 teaspoons vanilla in the third hole.
  7. Add 2 cups of cold water and mix.
  8. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Helpful hints

  • Great for cupcakes too! Pour 1/3 cup batter into each regular size cupcake liner to make 24 cupcakes.
  • Cocoa processed with alkali, also known as Dutch chocolate, is much higher in potassium than natural cocoa powder.
